I've been selling Smiths Scampi Fries and Bacon Fries since 2010. In that time, we've supplied tens of thousands of boxes to customers across the UK, making them one of our longest-running and best-selling product lines.

One thing that has always surprised me is that Scampi Fries consistently outsell Bacon Fries. Many first-time buyers assume bacon will be the more popular flavour, but year after year it's Scampi Fries that come out on top.

Whether you love them or hate them, there's no denying they're one of Britain's most recognisable pub snacks.

What About Smiths Bacon Fries?

Bacon Fries have the same satisfying crunch but with a rich smoky bacon flavour that's slightly less adventurous than Scampi Fries.

For many customers they're the safer choice, especially if they've never tried Smiths Pub Snacks before. Others won't touch anything except Scampi Fries.

The great thing is that, despite being around for decades, they still taste exactly how people remember them.

The Questions We Get Asked Every Week

Do your boxes come on the traditional pub display card?

No.

This is probably the question we're asked more than any other.

The boxes we sell contain the individual bags only and are not supplied on the traditional pub display card.

What's the shelf life?

This is another question we answer almost every day.

Smiths Pub Snacks don't have an especially long shelf life compared with many other snacks. We typically receive stock with around 6 to 8 weeks remaining, and it's unusual for us to receive much more than about 10 weeks.

That's completely normal and has been our experience throughout the many years we've been selling them.

Why do so many people still buy them?

Nostalgia.

Without a doubt, that's the biggest reason.

We regularly receive emails from customers telling us they remember buying Scampi Fries or Bacon Fries in the pub years ago, with one customer describing their order as "a trip down memory lane."

For others, they're simply a snack they've never stopped buying.

How many do people usually buy?

Most customers buy one or two boxes at a time.

Buying two boxes often takes the order over our free UK delivery threshold, so it's a popular option.

Why Have Smiths Pub Snacks Stayed So Popular?

After selling them since 2010, I think there are a few simple reasons.

They've never tried to become something they're not.

The flavours are still instantly recognisable.

They're different from ordinary potato crisps.

And perhaps most importantly, they remind people of good times. Whether it's watching the football, enjoying a pint with friends or remembering visits to the local pub years ago, these snacks have become part of those memories.

That's something you can't manufacture.

Whatever Happened to Cheese Moments?

After Scampi Fries, this is probably the next most common question we receive.

Unfortunately, Smiths Cheese Moments were discontinued and are no longer in production.

They still have a huge following, and we'd love to see them return one day, but for now they're firmly part of British snack history.
